Who are we?

A Higher Clause is the Linguistics Graduate Student Association committed to promoting and furthering interests and needs of linguistics students at the Master’s and PhD level. We are the association dedicated to deepening the academic and social experience of all our graduate students.

This is what we do:

  • Support each other
  • Help our peers find resources both on campus and in the city
  • Host social and academic events
  • Organize the Annual General Meeting

Duties: 

a. Plan and organize all academic events (workshops, conferences); plan and organize dry-runs, reviews, and practice talks for all the graduate students

b. Act as an academic representative of all the AHC members

c. Lead and facilitate CWPL editors’ meetings

Duties: 

a. Lead the team of event coordinators in planning events and activities for AHC members and beyond

b. Facilitate team meetings, and provide mentorship and support in event planning to team members.

c. Collaborate with faculty, AHC executive members, and other student groups on various events

Duties: 

a. Plan and organize the budget for the academic year

b. Examine financial situation of AHC on a monthly basis.

c. Supervise and help maintain monetary responsibility regarding spending on AHC projects and events

Calgary Working Papers in Linguistics is an annual journal which includes contributions in linguistics and related disciplines by linguistics faculty and students.
